Bloody Honest

A movie based of the novel by the same name written by Seth Grahame-Smith, which I have mixed fillings about.  I have a dueling conflicting with books that are turned into movies, mainly I love them and I hate them.  I read just as much as I watch movies, so naturally when a movie comes out based off a book that I read I always get excited to see it acted out on the big screen.  Though I am usually automatically disappointed when I see it.  Though it is not necessarily because the movie is bad, it's just that I already have a picture in my mind what the characters should look like and how their personalities should be.  However my thoughts rarely transcend on to the big screen.  Not to mention movies are never as good as the book because they either cut to much stuff out or they try cram to mush of the story like in to a 120 min movie.  However I will go ahead and tell you that I rather liked this movie, but before we get in to the movie here is a quick run down of the storyline.
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the USA, discover a plan that vampires are trying to take over the United States.  He then makes it his mission to eliminate them which leads to the abolishment of slavery (the vampires food source) and of course the Civil War.
My take on this is that it was a fairly good movie, however the group that I went and watched this movie with didn't really agree as much.  And I have to agree with them on certain aspects of the movie.  For starters naturally the movie did not follow the book as well as I could have, but only one of the group I went with actually knew that.  The really problem was that they tried to force to much of the book into the movie.  I think that they should have broken it up in a two movie deal and stretched it out a little more allowing more more detail in the movie.  The other thing is that some of the movie seemed force which is never good as a writer.  Once you develop a character you lose all control of them in a story, in order for the story to be good they have to act as you created.  Once you start force ending or force dialog into the writing the characters become unreal and you lose your audience.
All in all I still rate this movie as a fairly good movie, giving it a solid 3.5 out of 5 rating.  It's a good enough vampire flick in a day an age where vampires are everywhere across Hollywood right now.  So, if you find yourself looking for a vampire movie that doesn't involve a sparkling vampire giant wolf love triangle I would highly recommend this movie as a new vampire movie.  While it's not scary in the least it does have some fairly decent comedic points here and there.  And even with the rating of R all you are really getting is a lot of violence a few bad words and two very very very brief sexual moments it would still be acceptable to watch with a mature PG-13 audience.  So if you have older children it wouldn't be that bad.

I don't really have any fun facts for this one but this movie was somewhat weird in the sense that it didn't have any opening credits.

The title of this post was chosen for the fact that when this film was shipped to theater it was shipped under the name Bloody Honest.

Drive

I just did a review on a movie that is exceptionally good that I liked a lot so I figured that I should do a movie that I really hated at the same time.  I didn't like this movie so much I couldn't even think of a cool title for this post, that's why all you see in the movie title.  A lot of you are going to see my review of this movie and disagree with me while the other half probably can't agree more that this movie was horrible.  But before we get into all of that I am going to try and be unbiased and give you a pretty good description of what the movie was about.
I'm going to try and not go into to much detail as to leave some suspense to the movie for you but as follows is basically what the movie is about.  A mechanic/ stuntman/ get-away driver with a troubled and mysterious  past starts to fall for his neighbor who is married to a guy in prison and is taking care of her kid by herself.  When her husband comes home things start to take a turn for the worse when our driving protagonist  takes a job to help him out of a bind and things start to snowball down hill from there.  There is some other stuff that goes on with his boss at the garage that he works at who is trying to get him to join his racing team that he is trying to set up with borrowed mob money. As it turns out all of this is connected the fun begins.
Time for me to stop being unbiased and tell you how I felt about the movie.  The movie as a whole sucked and there really isn't any other way to put it.  There are people that say that its artistic and stuff like that but in reality it just wasn't a good movie.  The people that do like it bring up the fact that the lack of dialog says more than actual words, I say that people sitting around staring at each other is boring.  Not to mention with a title like Drive you would think that there would be more action packed driving sequences but there isn't.  Actually to be exact there really is only one and a half.   Further more the plot was very predictable and you could pretty much guess the ending from a mile away.
I accidentally stumbled across this movie one night when I was bored and I Googled "Top 10 Movies of 2011"  and this was number two on pretty much all of the lists and it at least made top five in the ones that it didn't.  So I looked it up and  the trailer was very misleading, leading you to believe it was going to be an action packed driving movie, which it wasn't.  In reality it's like someone took Transporter and douched it up and tried to make it artistic.
My advice on the subject is simple, don't watch this movie at all.  Before I wrote this I actually had to look up the movie to see what it was about because all I could associate it with was sucking.  If you really want to watch this movie read this and than watch the trailer and save a hour and a half of your life.  I rate this movie as a 1.5 out of 5 stars.  But take my advice no one should ever have to sit through this movie..... EVER.  They should actually write in a clause in the Geneva Convention saying that forcing anyone to watch this is a crime against humanity.

Here is the trailer, like I said it just watch it it's way better than the movie and you can hear all of Ryan Gosling speaking lines in this two minute trailer.

This movie sucked to bad to rate cool little fun facts about it.

They were a bit.... Bitey

For my first movie review I choose a movie that changed the Zombie genre for ever and turning a small fan base into and International phenomenon.  Okay, well maybe this didn't do all of the work but it defiantly played a huge roll  in the whole ordeal.  Personally I was a Zombie fan way before it became main stream and I think that it is the single greatest genre of all times when it comes to movies.  So, as you progress through my blogs you will see a lot of reviews on Zombie flicks.
Basically this movie is about a slacker who realizes after a bad day that his life isn't really going anywhere.  And it just so happens that the day he decides to turn his life around the world comes crashing down around him.  He then has to fight his way through a zombie infested England with his slacker best friend to win back his girl friend and save his mum.  All the while dealing with his step father and his ex-girlfriend's flat mates constantly challenging his leadership. I won't get into to much detail in fear of ruining the movie for you but this really is a must see movie.
Like a paragraph and  a half ago I mentioned that this movie changed the the Zombie Genre forever and it is completely true.  This was one of the first black comedies that dealt with zombie movies and it opened the door for movies like Zombieland and Fido.  Also on top of that the movie is generally great without all of that other stuff.   It has romance, action, and as a whole has great comedic timing.
On a scale from 1- 10 this movie is awesome and an undeniable 5 out 5 stars.  So as Halloween grows near and you are looking for that movie to watch with whoever, or in the case that your a loser by yourself, this is a great movie to sit down and enjoy for the first time or the twenty-fifth.

Fun fact all of the news readers and television presenters are real people portraying themselves in this movie, though if your from America you probably won't recognize any of them.

Enter Stage Left

If you are reading this than you most likely already know me, but for some reason if I have become famous here is a little introduction.  My name is Patrick and I have seen a lot of movies, and that is really my only qualifications to write this blog.  I did like two semesters of theater in high school but that doesn't really count.  Anyway now that you know me we can get to the meat and potatoes of why we are here.
This blog is here so that I can review movies and tell the world my opinion on  them.  i will be giving top tens, reviews on old and new movies, the review of the occasional TV show, and just random facts about movies and the industry that makes them as a hole.  You won't find gossip about what actor is doing who, or what actress is cheating on er boyfriend with what director here.  All you will get is the facts about movies and my opinion on whether they are any good or not.
The important thing to remember here is that I watch movies, I'm not an English major, I mean I can barely speak it properly much less type it out into a sentence.  These reviews will be written with bad spelling and worse grammar.  So, if that bothers you please sent all of your complaints by mail in writing.  Further more the opinions that I give on these movies are just that, my opinions and if you don't agree with that's fine I'm pretty sure that you can comment on the post and tell everyone that I am wrong.  However the thing to remember is that I have a blog on the subject and you don't so I win by default.
To all of my future followers I would like to go ahead and say thank you for reading my blog and telling your friends about it.  And more importantly I hope you enjoy ready it as much as I enjoy writing about it.
